Our ABFs meet every Sunday morning. and provide excellent teaching, friendly people and opportunities to go deeper in your walk with Christ. ABFs often involve prayer groups, service projects and social activities outside of class. While Adult Bible Fellowships are typically based on age, life-stage or special interest, the structure is not rigid, and we want you to find the class that fits you best. ABF classes are designed for you to join and remain in for as long as you desire.

Foundation Seminars are short-term, content-driven courses designed to help you grow in a particular area of interest or need. These seminars help us comprehend the subtle intricacies and overarching truths of our God and the theology, ministry and history He has authored. Foundation Seminars are styled as lectures and discussion, with occasional reading assignments outside of class. The Reformation Dawns and Spreads  |  Begins September 8, 2019
9:45 AM  |  Choir Room  |  Taught by Wayne Kn

As the Age of Reason and the Enlightenment gain traction in Europe, the church faces new challenges that still persist today. At the same time, the Holy Spirit builds the church through the Great Awakenings and the evangelistic efforts of men like John Wesley, Jonathan Edwards, George Whitefield, Charles Spurgeon, D.L. Moody, Billy Sunday, and Billy Graham. This 22-week study journeys from the 17th century to the current day and investigates the people and ideas that have shaped the modern church

“Church growth was never our intention, and it still isn’t!” Pastor Davey says. “We’ve simply responded to what God is doing.” While God has provided richly for the needs of the church, the history of Colonial is so much more than numbers and buildings. It’s a story about individuals serving, growing and learning together as part of a living body. As the church grew, new ministries developed to equip the body and reach out to the community. Ten key ministry departments and Shepherds Theological Seminary provide opportunities for growth and service to the 4,000 people who attend Colonial and to the community beyond. More than 110 different ministry programs are operating and are staffed by over 2,000 volunteers. Additionally, by the end of 2014, the Colonial Family had given away $11 million dollars to missions enterprises around the world.  Now, those are numbers to celebrate!

“To this day, I am more excited about tomorrow than yesterday,” Stephen says, “and I remain convinced that our greatest step of faith is the next one.” The tomorrow that Stephen is excited about is a church that invests in other churches and multiplies believers – a church that in 2013 added to its bustling schedule national events such as the ACBC Conference to train biblical counselors.  Colonial also launched their annual National 360 Shepherds Conference for Church Leaders in 2014 which allows Colonial the opportunity to mentor churches on a regional and national level. CLICK HERE to learn more about our strategy to multiply our ministry impact.

For Stephen and the entire Elder Team, this isn’t just a vision for Colonial. As in Colonial’s early days, it’s just a matter of “responding to the work that God ignites, establishes and advances.”

Stephen Davey is the son of missionary parents and was raised to love Christ, His church and His word. In his last year of High School, Stephen committed his life to serving Christ and went on to prepare for a life of servant-leadership at Liberty University, Tennessee Temple University, Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary, and Dallas Theological Seminary.

Stephen also serves as the president of Shepherds Theological Seminary, a young and exciting seminary that has earned accreditation with ATS. With an outstanding faculty and growing student body, Shepherds currently meets on the beautiful campus of Colonial which also allows Stephen to interact with the students as well as teach Pastoral Theology and Creative Bible Teaching.  Shepherds Seminary is one of Colonial’s most strategic church planting initiatives and it is a rare privilege for our church to be able to support and participate in training our students for pastoring, counseling, teaching, military chaplaincy and a host of additional roles in ministry.  As a result of our partnership with STS, Colonial continues to play a vital role in launching church plants, filling numerous pastoral and ministry roles and serving the body of Christ at large.  Shepherds now has more than 100 graduates serving in 23 states and in 9 different countries around the world. Shepherds Theological Seminary

Stephen has written numerous books, study guides, commentaries and booklets, published through Ambassador/Emerald House, Kress Biblical Resources, Charity House Publishers, LOGOS and Wisdom for the Heart. Wisdom’s website now allows listeners to download all of Stephen’s audio sermons and transcripts at no charge.  Stephen’s messages are now translated into eight languages, heard on more than 250 radio stations world-wide. Wisdom For The Heart
